We are pleased to offer our congratulations to Henry Douglas William Baird, Head of the Gartsherrie House of Baird, on his new Patent of Arms (below) granted by Scotland’s Lord Lyon. He is a direct descendant of Alexander Baird who began mining for coal in Lanark at the end of the 18th century and whose eldest son William created the Gartsherrie iron production empire along with six of his seven brothers.
Henry and his wife Alison were of great assistance to us at the inception of Clan Baird of Scotland and provided much of what you see on our website’s Gartsherrie page. They are now living in Australia and Henry has empowered his son Douglas, who lives in Argyll & Bute, Scotland, to act on his behalf.
Douglas is a founding member of the Clan Baird Alliance, the heir apparent to head the Gartsherrie Baird line and we are lucky to have him on our leadership team. He attended the 2019 Family Convention, conducted by the Lord Lyon, in support of his distant cousin, Richard Holman Baird for Commander. Richard Holman Baird is a member of one of the junior cadet branches of the Gartsherrie Bairds (see their connection below). Douglas is now working with Sir James Baird, 11th Bt. of Saughtonhall to plan more and better ways to support the Clan of Baird.
